Sasha is up for an award!

Here at Black Nova Designs we are so proud to share the news that our member of staff Sasha Bird has been announced as an award finalist! Sasha has made the final 5 of the ‘Future Tech Superstar’ category at the Techies Awards 2021, the Business Exchange’s technology awards for Swindon and Wiltshire.

These awards aim to shine a light on local technology talent which might otherwise go under the radar.

How amazing is it for Sasha to have caught the judges’ eyes?

This nomination is so special to us for two reasons – the first is that Sasha is the only female finalist in the whole awards which is just amazing for her, and the second is that she is only 17 years old! Sasha joined us 4 years ago on work experience and it was immediately obvious that she was going places. Her attitude to her work and her attention to detail is amazing, and we are so lucky to have her on board! 

Sasha is only at the beginning of her career in IT and we’re just over the moon that her achievements to date have been recognised in this way. Sasha is already qualified in HTML and is learning CSS and other coding languages alongside her work for us as we speak. She’s a bona fide WordPress superstar, able to edit pages and products as quick as lightning and has put together most of the free ‘how to’ guides and tutorials we share with our customers and followers. What’s more, women working in coding is so rare, but Sasha has taken to it like a duck to water. We all hope that her experience and achievements show other young women that coding and IT can be a very rewarding career. We are so, so proud of Sasha and can’t wait to see how the awards finals go!

They are taking place virtually on the 4th of November and naturally, we’re going to be ready to support Sasha on the night. We will all gather here at Black Nova Designs HQ with some fizz, takeaways (Sasha gets to choose which we go for, obviously!), party poppers and more to mark this exciting evening. Finalist in the Future Tech Superstar Category

In Sasha’s words:

I was pleasantly surprised to be selected as a finalist for The Techies 2021 and feel truly honoured to be chosen. I hope it shows other teenage girls that women do code and there’s a place for them in the IT industry too.

For the awards night we are planning a takeaway night and zoom evening at the HQ with bubbly, party poppers and full team celebrations! We will share it all on our social media feeds and can’t wait to celebrate with everyone on the night, winners and runners up!

I hope this shows how inclusive and welcoming Black Nova Designs are as a company and how they invest in people. If I’m lucky enough to win then it would be acknowledgement of the hard work of the team in their training and support of me in this role.
